Bamfield Boardwalk’s Iconic flower boxes
A decades-long tradition
Flower boxes have long been a feature of the Bamfield Boardwalk; many of them are over 40 years old! The planters are filled with a variety of flowers and may look different throughout the year as different seasons cater to various plants.
Community Minded
The flower boxes are cared for by the residents and businesses of Bamfield. The boxes are not owned by any one individual but instead rely, as so much of Bamfield does, on a sense of community care and responsibility.
Hand-made in Bamfield
The flower boxes are made by local Bamfielders and use local sustainably-harvested. Cedar is used as the natural oils and acids help provide longevity to the boxes.
Community Supported
The milling, assembly, lining materials, brackets, potting soil, and plants are made possible through community volunteerism and generous contributions. If you want to help Bamfield and its flower boxes, consider a small contribution to assist keeping them fabulous. Visit Help Support to see how.
Maintenance Required
The flower boxes line the boardwalk at the shore’s edge, and in the fall and winter are subjected to ferocious winds, rain, and sea spray. Over time the weather takes its toll and each year a few flower boxes succumb to the elements. Volunteers and generous donations help maintain the boxes, repairing where necessary, or replacing if they are too far gone.
